"The First Fifty Years" Book and Lighter Set (Updated)

by Kelly Platko 25. January 2010 23:38

Update: The book and lighter set is now sold out, but books are still available for $34.95 each (plus S+H).

Roseart-Book-Cover

Roseart is pleased to announce the release of “Roseart – The First 50 Years”. The first and only book published to document the rich history of the Bradford based company.

Written by Michael Grimaldi, author of “And You Thought Zippo Only Made Lighters,” this 112-page book tells the story of how Philip M. Rose came to found the company in 1957 and follows its progress over the years to become the thriving family business it is today.

The detailed text is accompanied by 300 photographs taken by Steve Mahon of J & K Photography in Bradford, PA. These amazing images include many rare and one-of-a-kind pieces from the family’s archives along with the latest Roseart offerings.

We’re very excited about this limited edition book, which we’ve been working on for the past three years. The idea to write it came after lots of questions from collectors worldwide regarding our history. Many of the items in our archives are seldom seen in the marketplace and we wanted to share these and educate our collector’s on where we’ve come from.” said Kelly Rose Platko, granddaughter of the founder.

Only 150 copies have been published, of which the first 50 have been reserved for a special edition set. The Special Edition will include a bookplate on the inside cover signed by the author, photographer, and Roseart co-owner and Chairman-of-the-Board, Ralph Rose. These books will be numbered and paired up with corresponding numbered, Zippo lighters featuring both the books front and back cover designs pad-printed on two sides.

Roseart will begin taking orders for the Special Edition set beginning Monday, November 30 with books shipping mid December. Prepaid orders will be able to select specific numbered editions. Numbers will be released on a first come-first served basis. Please include three number choices when placing an order. This Special Edition set is $75 plus shipping.

The Mazzi Roseart Table Lighter

It was the Zippo/Case International Swap Meet 2000. While browsing the collector’s tables, Ralph stumbled across Claudio Mazzi hard at work on a masterpiece. Intrigued by his artwork, Ralph asked Claudio if he would do something on a Roseart Table lighter for him. Claudio said let me take a look at the surface of the table lighter. Ralph ran down to Roseart and got a 1959 3 ½” Fibron Table lighter to show Claudio. He agreed to paint a portrait of Ralph and Judy on the table lighter and took it back to Italy with him. A few months later, Ralph received in the mail the completed Roseart with the portrait.

“We are thrilled to have this Claudio Mazzi original in our possession.” said Ralph. He hopes to have Claudio do additional Roseart’s in the future. Since that time we have obtained a number of Claudio’s Zippo lighters to add to the collection.

Thank you Claudio! We are very proud of our association with the Mazzi name.

Introducing Silene Speirs

by Kelly Platko 25. January 2010 20:08

Silene-Speirs Silene-Speirs-2

Introducing Silene Speirs, who is a self-taught artist.  Silene's artwork will be available exclusively through the Roseart Company as she has joined efforts with them to offer her artwork on Roseart and Zippo products.

Silene-Speirs-LighterShe was born in 1942 in Vicenza, Italy and developed an interest in art at a very early age. Many sculptors lived  in her neighborhood where she grew up. As a child, Silene went almost every day after school from one artist shop to the next, watching them sculpt for hours. Inspired by this experience she developed a very unique painting technique that has become her signature style. She is able to give life to an amazing landscape of shapes and textures and using incredible patchworks of colors and patterns. They are reminders of the ones often found in the decorative arts of her native Italy; she creates beautiful and intricate quilts on canvas. Her work is highly imaginative and intensely refined. She has 3 children, and has been married to Joe for 45 years. Joe is a lighter collector who attends lighter shows.  She draws while Joe is working his table and making trades and swaps.  Her favorite media is oil, and then prisma color pencils.

Please join us in welcoming this beautiful artwork to the lighter collecting world.  Pictured is the firstSilene artwork chosen to be offered for sale.
